FLEX TRAINING
Designed for people who cannot step away from work or life full-time. Whether you are working toward a Commercial licence, a Private licence, or returning for recurrent training, we build your schedule around your availability — often 3 to 5 training days a week, timed around your calendar. Keep your goal in sight and learn to fly when you can. Our most successful part-time students are the ones who commit to the time they do have and stay consistent.
High-quality flight training and an advancement plan into the commercial world with our tailored graduate program. We carefully select students for placement, providing the opportunity to transition into employment at an established utility helicopter operation.
TRAINING
Foothills Helicopter Training Academy uses the Robinson R44 as its primary training machine. The R44 is well suited to the Western Canadian environment and mountainous terrain, giving students significant commercial helicopter experience while challenging their abilities in areas such as power management and rapidly changing weather.
INSTRUCTORS
Our instructors all have extensive commercial pilot experience and mix instruction time with commercial operations including forestry, oil and gas, mining, aerial surveying and charter. Our Chief Flight Instructor has several thousand hours instructing initial students through to company training of experienced pilots, in addition to many thousands of hours in the commercial operating environment.

REQUIREMENTS
- ›English proficiency test
- ›Class 1 Canadian medical examination for Commercial; Class 3 for Private
- ›100 hours flight training for Commercial; 45 hours for Private
- ›65 hours dual (Commercial) / 33 hours dual (Private)
- ›35 hours pilot in command (Commercial) / 12 hours pilot in command (Private)
- ›80 hours of ground school (Commercial) / 40 hours (Private)
- ›At least 80% on the written exam
- ›Successful completion of the flight test
